www.oban.org.uk Built nearly 100 years ago by John Stuart McCaig to keep the local stonemasons in business, it cost nearly £5000 way back then. It was not completed before he died but it has a dramatic position overlooking the beautiful bay and town of Oban and the viewing platform is well worth the 70 metre climb from the town centre to gaze over the Isles of Kerrera and Lismore, the Mountains of Morvern and the Maiden Isle and Mull. - The Falkirk Wheel...
www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk Almost 100 years ago, a series of 11 locks was used to connect the Forth and Clyde canal running fromGlasgow to Edinburgh's Union Canal (some 150 feet). these locks took boat owners a full day to get through. As part of the Millennium initiative to encourage waterway usage, the Falkirk Wheel was designed and constructed to provide a 21st century solution to join the canals. It is a truly unique and awesome spectacle. The wheel lifts boats and tourists 115 ft up through Roughcastle Tunnel and then for those that want a return journey it's back down to once again enjoy the spectacular views. The Falkirk Wheel is set in an attractive park which also boasts the Irn-Bru Fun Factory for children 5-14 years old and a basin trail with brass rubbing facilities to enjoy too. - Loch of the Lowes wildlife centre (nr.
