isle of mull, birdwatch safari »
A very blustery Saturday in early February saw Sarah, Steve and visiting friend Geri with her son Luc, catching the 12.00 CalMac ferry out of Oban.
With the rain coming in horizontally and the wind allowing young Luc to defy gravity whilst bending backwards (you know what young boys are like!) the conditions provided a very dramatic setting for standing on deck and watching the beautiful port of Oban disappear astern.
Destination ? Craignure on the Isle of Mull to meet up with Richard Atkinson who has run bird watching safaris on the island for the last ten years.
With the Scottish weather being as predictable as normal we arrived at Mull forty-five minutes later with the sun shining and blue sky.
Perfect weather for spotting the sea eagles, golden eagles and all types of feathered flyer that Richard confidently predicted we'd see.
Richard met us at the jetty in his Volkswagon van, which turned out to be a great way to tour around the island. First off we traveled past the turreted Torosay Castle to an island inlet where pairs of sea eagles guard their territory.
Although they proved elusive on this occasion the herds of wild deer, including the magnificent stags, and fields of Highland cattle soon got the girls snapping away with their cameras.
